Peter learned to play bagpipes in 1976 and was a charter member of Cape Cod's Highland Light Scottish Pipe Band. He has since played with the Clan Sutherland Pipe Band of Boston, the Manchester Pipe Band in Connecticut, and the Rhode Island Highlanders where he served as Pipe Sergeant for several years. Peter recently returned to the Manchester Pipe Band in Connecticut.
Having received tuition from many notable instructors, Peter has successfully competed in Amateur Grade 1 at many Highland Games competitions in the Northeastern US & Canada, as well as playing for numerous parades and local events.
Some of Peter's most memorable bagpiping events include:
Piping in the Best Of Breed class at the 1999 & 2008 GRCA National Specialty shows.
Playing for the memorial service of Brian Sweeney, a victim of the 9/11 tragedy and at the funeral of Brigadier General Charles Sweeney (no relation) the pilot who flew the "Fat Man" atomic bomb to Nagasaki in 1945.
Peter also played at the dedication of the MIA/POW Flame Memorial located at the Massachusetts National Cemetary on Cape Cod.
For many years he was the bagpiper at the St. Patrick's Day Mass held at St. Mary's Church in Newport, RI, the church where JFK and Jacqueline Bouvier married.
